I guess I never thought the graphics fidelity would be as high as it is today. The only drawback is that some publishers use the eye candy to disguise a flawed game, or animated feature which actually leaves a bad taste in many people's mouths. There's a reason that 30 years later people still go back to Pac-Man, and it certainly isn't the graphics.
That said, it is really impressive when you see a car render, and you have to do a double take to realize it's a polygonal model, and not an actual vehicle on a lot. I don't know they can get much more realistic. It's bound to hit a wall within the next few generation.
In the future it might be cool if they could find away to bring The Holodeck to fruition.
Of course if electronic gaming became THAT real we all may decide to go outside after all.
What computer accessories and peripherals can't you live without?

I'd have to say my Zboard, MX518 mouse, and my USB 360 Gamepads.
I do a fair share of typing, and gaming on my computer.
A good KB, and mouse is crucial, and the Zboard from Ideazon is a great KB.
The standard keyset is comfortable, and tactile. The gaming keyset is very comfortable, and ergonomic.
Which if family history is any indication, will be a must if I get hit with arthritis.
The MX518 mouse is a fairly affordable, versatile, and comfortable. It has programmable buttons, and on the fly dpi switching which is great because in games or in photo editing programs the sensitivity of the cursor is key.
Also the programmable buttons mean that you can macro more commands to the mouse. The less menus I have to sift through the better.
Finally, the 360 gamepad is natively seen in Windows XP, Vista, and the upcoming 7. It's pretty much a must for racing games, and console ports.
